Private Residential, Toowoomba

Category : Residential

Location

The site is set into the side of the Toowoomba Range, and has spectacular views overlooking Cunningham's Gap and the Lockyer Valley beyond.

The Client's Brief

The original owner, the aunt of the clients, was a horticulture student of Edna Walling.  The clients needed a garden that incorporated long-term easy access as they age with the garden, as well as spaces for their grandchildren to play in during visits.

Features

This design and administration of such a large scale residential garden in association with existing house refurbishments has been completed in two stages.  The design realises a modern interpretation of Walling's 'Australian Style' focused gardens combining built elements with natural materials and 'naturalistic' plantings.  Space for productive gardens has been designated close to the house to facilitate access, and an entertainment area with seating and fire-pit facilities has been nestled into the bottom of the garden to further reinforce the 'prospect-refuge' design philosophy in this garden.
