The Client's Brief

The garden design brief required accommodating a growing family with 3 children.  The client's desire was to create a French provincial feel within the Queensland vernacular, incorporating native plants within an existing framework of established trees.

Features

The emphasis is on outdoor connections and living that allow a free roam around the garden.  The rich, textured pathways lead to decorative steelwork gates and entry courtyard with Magnolia species and Westringia species.  A series of raised timber vegetable beds feature in the backyard as part of the productive garden space.  Wide sandstone steps lead up onto the large upper lawn area which gives the client's children plenty of room to play.

A more intimate path leads down the southern side of the house towards the utility area, where shade-loving species such as Birds Nest Ferns (Asplenium nidus) and Cunjevois (Alocasia brisbanensis) are planted to invoke a lush, rainforest feel.
